Life After Beth
Genre :
Year : 2014

Starring : Dane DeHaan, Aubrey Plaza

I have a general wish to see as few Zombie films as possible, but at least this one was a little unusual.

There weren't many blood-spattered lumbering morons for a start.

Zach is in mourning as the picture starts, because his girlfriend Beth has died after a poisonous snake bit her. He heads round to see her parents for solace and joins dad (John C Reilly) in a game of chess.

However to his amazement, one day he spots Beth in the house, apparently alive. And sure enough, it's her. She looks normal and can't understand why he thought she was dead.

The problem is, she is. And it gradually becomes obvious that she isn't quite the same girl she once was. It seems coming back from the dead changes one's personality. She is prone to rages, and impressive ones at that.

Returning from the dead becomes more common in the community and things get out of hand.

The film rambles a bit in the latter stages, not quite sure where it's going, but it's enjoyable enough. Good description in the Festival brochure - it's a Zom-Rom-Com.
