Castles in the Sky
Genre : Biopic
Year : 2014
Director : Gillies Mackinnon
Screenplay :
Starring : Eddie Izzard, Karl Davies, Laura Fraser

Robert Watson-Watt, though not a well-known name, was the inventor of radar and so a key man in winning the war.

Eddie Izzard takes on the role, with 1940s cardigan and Scottish accent, and the whole feel of the film is that of a forties war drama.

The members of his team are truly the descendants of Victor Maddern and Sam Kydd.

They bumble onwards, not really looking as if they are about to invent anything significant, every now and again having a bright idea.

Meanwhile there are others who think the money the project costs might be better spent.

There's even a mole in the group, planted by David Hayman's character Lindemann. You can usually say a film or TV show will be worth watching if David Hayman is in it.

Time is against the group and the Germans are coming if they fail.

The Q&A afterwards at the EIFF featured Gillies MacKinnon, David Hayman and by Skype, Eddie Izzard.

Izzard said he pitched his accent as "Educated Dundee" which drew a laugh, and of which the presenter said "It doesn't exist!"
